I have lived my life with a generous amount of spontaneity, and I keep that rhythm at the forefront of my work. I am most inspired by my immediate surroundings- the eclectic musical community in Asheville, and by traveling the world, experiencing the music and art of different cultures.

Throughout my paintings, I use the contrasting duo of indigo watercolor and 24 karat gold to feature the improvisation within the jazz genre, and the way the music comes from deep within the soul of the musician.

About the Exhibition

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, "Mountain Songs" celebrates the resilience of the Appalachian community and the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Colquitt's oil paintings capture the ethereal quality of the mountains, while Ray's watercolors evoke the fragility and strength of the newly evolved landscape.

"My aim is to convey the depth and atmosphere of our beloved Blue Ridge Mountains. Through my art, I seek to inspire a sense of connection and stewardship with the land," Colquitt says.

Ray continues "This exhibit represents the 'shattered but not broken' spirit of our community. Despite the devastation, we emerge stronger and more beautiful than ever."
